Celebrating Six Years Of Art!
This Labor Day weekend marks 6 years since I made my first tapestry. I’ve shared the story a few times on Instagram about how the rental home we were living in begged for a large piece of artwork in the dining room, but my taste for art and my budget for art did not align. I decided to create something myself but when I went to the art store, I realized that even a large blank canvas was out of my price range. I didn’t stop there however. My vision shifted and I thought, “What if I built my own canvas, but used a different material?”
I began with a wooden dowel and suspended individual strands across it to create a piece that had the large wall coverage I was looking for. Then I took my creation to the backyard, and while my kids were playing I used dyes and paints to add layers of color to my “canvas”. The story goes on to me snapping a photo of my hanging on the wall and posting it to Instagram, claiming that I had discovered “an underground artist” that weekend and was “really happy with her latest piece”. When people started asking who the artist was, I explained my not-so-obvious joke and declared that it was me who made it. This led to friends requesting their own wall hangings. I quickly realized my “canvas” was an interesting addition to not only my own home but that I could create them for others. I named my fiber art “Canvas With Movement” and trademarked the title a couple years later.
There have been many twists and turns to this journey, but I think the best way to appreciate the past six years of creating art is by looking through the work itself. If you make it through all the images below, you'll get to the very first piece that I made, which still hangs in a friend’s home in Oklahoma. Looking back through these photos of this very unexpected career path, I know that I am blessed to have worked with some of the most talented designers in the country (and the world) on projects that I would have never even dreamed of being a part of.
This path has not been easy, but it has always been a gift to create artwork that others choose to hang on their walls. I’m celebrating six years of being an artist by sharing your words about my artwork. I cherish these words and every kind word I receive from testimonials, messages, emails, and comments. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your encouragement. I’m continuously humbled to know that my vision and solution to a blank wall has led to a lifestyle of creating artwork everyday. I will never get over how grateful I am for that.
So, THANK YOU. Thank you for reading these words, liking my photos, sharing my work and supporting my art. I am excited to continue creating for many more years. xx, L
“I continue to be in awe of the attention to detail that Lauren has. From the art itself, to the package and the handwritten notes. The authenticity carries throughout her process and her art from order to delivery.”

“I reached out to Lauren, who couldn't be sweeter, and she sent me a dropbox link with images of all the new pieces that her studio had produced for the month. We picked the perfect dyed piece for our space. We received it, wrapped beautifully, and with a personal, hand-written note thanking us for including her work in our design. Lauren is a class act, and the piece itself was of impeccable quality!"

“The overall design concept of the rooms [for the Kimpton Alexis Hotel] was to have a minimal base aesthetic layered with color and textures to create the modern yet rich and warm look and feel to the room…A true signature moment is the fiber art piece over the bed, created by artist, Lauren Williams. The concept of the piece is a ‘canvas with movement’ with colors that reflect the local landscape. The art is made of wool sourced by the artist and custom dyed for each piece. All together these elements comprise a composition that reflects the modern, Pacific Northwest colors, finishes and textures.”

“Monica and I both came across Lauren’s work at separate times so when it came time to find a stunning piece over her bed, we both thought one of Lauren’s pieces would be perfect! I loved the texture it gave to Monica’s wall above her bed, the colors that added warmth and the modern lines and angles that kept the space feeling very contemporary.”

“I had seen Lauren on Instagram but never bought her pieces, when it arrived we were all blown away with the craftsmanship, the beauty and how personal it felt for my clients. Even though the “Sandstorm” piece wasn't commissioned for them it felt as it was truly made for their home. That’s what original art does. It makes you feel special, and makes your home feel more personal.
After using Lauren’s art in their project I just fell in LOVE with her tapestries. The Beach to the Burbs clients wanted awesome, original pieces in their home so I knew it would be an easy sell but finding the perfect piece was a little hard. We finally chose the “Blue Lagoon” because my clients had moved from a beach town and were surfers and it reminded them of their last home. It was a way they connected with the piece and it checked off all the boxes for me. It was the perfect way to add color to the space, its a talking point for their guests and makes them feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Thats what art should do for the home.”

“Of the interiors that we have chosen to use Lauren’s artwork in, we’ve done so because we were needing a piece to add interest and originality. Lauren’s work provides a layer of detail, dimension and movement that you wouldn’t get from a flat canvas. “

“My dining room was a mish mosh room for a while…old pieces from our last home along with new pieces that I bought with clear direction of the place I wanted to eventually get to. This fiber art from Lauren Williams Art was one of those first pieces I had my eye on for a long time and I finally pulled the trigger and she is so beautiful. The detail and colors are perfection and the center of attention when friends come over! Thank you Lauren for creating such beautiful art.”

I have a secret design crush, and it’s time to share it with the world. Her name is Lauren Williams Art and it is time I let this secret ot…even though she is by far more popular than I am! “For me, Lauren’s art is transformative. That’s such an adult-sounding, serious word, but I truly feel her work is cathartic. Each piece perfectly encompasses and balances movement, texture, and color. It’s honestly such a hard feat to accomplish, but Lauren does it with beauty and grace – I can’t be the only one who’s been a bit hypnotized by her hyper-lapse progress videos! As a creative, I’m most inspired by others who have both a strong sense of purpose and the desire to constantly evolve and learn. Lauren (and her art) truly embodies this.”

“As a fan of Lauren Williams for years, I always jump at the chance to propose one of her pieces in my projects. All of her pieces have movement, texture and visual interest that I've never been disappointed with when I get them in person. I can also always anticipate that the Canvas with Movement piece being the favorite piece in my client's collections and every time I put one up, I wish that I had (selfishly) purchased the piece for myself so I could enjoy it daily! It's been wonderful to see her evolution and the pieces get larger and more complex --- and I can't wait to see what is in store for the future.”
